Congress Approves Bill to Make Public Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on Tuesday gave swift approval to legislation that will mandate the disclosure of official records concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. The White House relented after months of trying to block the joint action involving a scandal that has plagued the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Approval in Congress

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, accelerating the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a 427-1 tally.

The public have been patient long enough. The survivors have waited long enough,” the top Senate Democrat declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next goes to Trump for his signature. He signaled on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Although Trump has for months rejected the outcry over the government’s handling of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and said he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Support and Opposition

Opposition lawmakers, along with those affected and their supporters who were seated in a House gallery, cheered after the bill was passed. Lone dissent came from a GOP representative, who expressed concern he feared the measure would disclose specific data of people, potential suspects and others implicated in the investigation.
